La educación profunda ha sido desplazada por una incultura rápida, superficial y mediocre que se ha normalizado. Hoy en día, abundan individuos que presumen de ser escritores o lectores solo porque sostienen un papel, un libro o un texto largo, aunque ni lo entienden ni se toman el tiempo de reflexionar sobre él.

La idea de dedicar varias horas o incluso minutos a una lectura que exige pensar y cultivarse les resulta molesta. Ya no se distingue entre el verdadero interés intelectual y el simple postureo. Todo se ha convertido en contenido rápido, diseñado para ser consumido de forma viral. Y como ocurre con los virus, se propaga sin control, sin filtro, sin pensamiento.

Esta es la razón por la cual la mediocridad se ha instalado como estándar, tanto en la cultura como en los gobiernos actuales. Lo que hoy se llama “arte” muchas veces no es más que incultura disfrazada de innovación, diseñada para adormecer a las masas. Si se les presenta un texto largo, reflexivo, elaborado, muchos reaccionan con incomodidad: “¡Me he quedado sin aire con tanto texto!” Entonces me pregunto: ¿qué están leyendo realmente? Porque claramente no están acostumbrados a textos que demanden análisis, crítica o profundidad.

Además, en la actualidad, cualquiera puede autodenominarse “escritor” si tiene acceso a una imprenta, a redes sociales y a una estrategia de marketing. La meritocracia ha sido sustituida por la visibilidad digital. Las editoriales, muchas veces, se han convertido en fábricas de libros vacíos, pensados para vender, no para formar.

Se publican textos sin fundamento, muchas veces reciclados de ideas ajenas, con ediciones pagadas y lectores que solo buscan aparentar cultura. Lo más irónico es que estas mismas personas que dicen “escribir” o “leer” no pueden debatir de frente, sin un guion, sin hojas, sin textos preparados. Se paralizan ante el pensamiento crítico, ante una conversación real. Lo que abunda hoy no es literatura ni lectura verdadera, sino una carnicería editorial de consumo rápido. Deep education has been displaced by a fast, superficial, and mediocre lack of culture that has become normalized.Nowadays, there are plenty of individuals who boast about being writers or readers simply because they hold a piece of paper, a book, or a long text—even if they don’t understand it or take the time to reflect on it. The idea of dedicating several hours, or even minutes, to a reading that demands thought and self-cultivation feels bothersome to them. The line between genuine intellectual interest and mere posturing has become blurred.

Everything has turned into fast content, designed to be consumed virally. And just like viruses, it spreads uncontrollably—without filters, without thought. This is why mediocrity has become the standard, both in culture and in today’s governments. What is often called "art" today is nothing more than ignorance disguised as innovation, designed to numb the masses.

When faced with a long, thoughtful, well-crafted text, many people react with discomfort: "I ran out of breath reading so much!"And I wonder: what are they actually reading? Because it’s clear they’re not used to texts that demand analysis, critique, or depth.

Moreover, nowadays anyone can call themselves a "writer" if they have access to a printer, social media, and a marketing strategy. Meritocracy has been replaced by digital visibility. Publishing houses have often become factories of empty books—designed to sell, not to educate. Texts are released without substance, often recycled from other people’s ideas, with paid editions and readers who are only interested in appearing cultured.

The most ironic part is that the same people who claim to “write” or “read” can’t hold a face-to-face debate without a script, without notes, without prewritten texts. They freeze in the face of critical thinking or real conversation. What abounds today is neither true literature nor genuine reading—it’s an editorial slaughterhouse of fast consumption.
